On the 22nd of January, St Peter’s First Year team made the trip to Ballea Park to face off against Edmund Rice Carrigaline. The winner of the match would make it through to the last 16 of the First Year Collins Cup.
The match started brightly for St Peters whose early pressure paid off with a goal from Eoghan Farrell. St Peter’s continued to dominate possession but Edmund Rice caught the Passage West outfit on the break and a very tidy lob from twenty yards levelled the score line. Just before half time, Eoghan Farrell got his second goal of the game and St Peter’s went in at half time leading 2-1.
A closer second half saw Edmund Rice grow into the game. St Peter’s created more dangerous opportunities but were unable to score. Daragh Lehane created an opening on the right hand side cut onto his left foot and was taken down as he attempted to get his shot off. A penalty was awarded and St Peter’s captain Mark Lester coolly finished it in the corner.
St Peter’s saw off the rest of the game without too much threat brought to their goal. The score line finished off 3-1 to St Peters and a last 16 date was organised with St Aidan’s Community School.
On the 1st of February, St Peter’s made the trip to St Aidan’s to play their last 16 match. A closely fought game saw St Aidan’s triumph 4-3. St Peter’s found it difficult to mark St Aidan’s centre forward who bagged a hat trick. The scorers for St Peters on the day were Kristian O’Callaghan and two for Mark Lester. The boys represented St Peter’s proudly and the next match for St Peter’s is a difficult fixture against St Colman’s Community School in the Cork Cup.
