On the 11th of December, St Peters made the trip to Dunmanway to play Maria Immaculata Community College (MICC) in the First Year Collins Cup. MICC had won their first fixture against Edmund Rice Carrigaline and were off to a flying start having taken a 1-0 lead after 2 minutes with a scrappy goal. St Peters pressed and put pressure on MICC but the goalkeeper was a match for St Peters efforts and this resolute defending was compounded when MICC scored from a direct free kick. The score at half time was 2-0 to the home team.
St Peters came out in the 2nd half with renewed determination and optimism. Three substitutes were brought in and a reshuffle of player positions saw St Peters take control of the 2nd half. As the away team were pushing to reduce the arrears St Peters got caught on the counter attack and found themselves 3-0 down. From that point on, St Peters laid siege to the MICC goal. Daragh Lehane was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty. Mark Lester (Captain) finished coolly in the corner. St Peters then reduced the score line to 3-2 with Rhys O’Connor finishing a well-coordinated team move. St Peters continued to fight for the third goal and when Eoghan Farrell was taken down in the box it was thought the referee would point to the spot but unfortunately for St Peters he waved away the protestations. The game finished with MICC resisting the St Peters charge with the score line finishing 3-2 to MICC. Next up for St Peters is a knockout match with Edmund Rice Carrigaline to see who progresses to the next round.
