Congratulations to one of our Leaving Certificate

Congratulations to one of our Leaving Certificate students, Aoibhinn Taaffe, who recently completed a skydive as part of her fundraising efforts for Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland! 🪂 Aoibhinn has raised over €760 as part of her fundraising, which included a bake sale in the school last year 🧁

Aoibhinn was the first recipient of the Fr. Con Cronin Memorial Perpetual Cup (The Fr. Con Cup) at last year’s Barr Bua Awards. The Cup acknowledges the fundraising and awareness that Aoibhinn has carried out within the community over the past few months to bring attention to this important organisation. Well done Aoibhinn for your bravery and for being a fantastic representative of St. Peter’s 👏🏆

Today our St. Peter’s U19s Boys Basketball Team

Today our St. Peter’s U19s Boys Basketball Team defeated Crosshaven U19s 25-19! Daniel Moynihan was the top scorer with 12 points. A physical, hard working performance from the Senior Boys team saw them come out deserved winners! Special mention to Andrew O’Mahony who played an excellent game 👏💪
Unfortunately our U16s lost to Crosshaven’s U16s in a tough game! Crosshaven playing excellent throughout, but the St. Peter’s team can be proud that they kept fighting until the end 💪Special mention to Golding Nduwuba and Ivan Sullivan who had very good games 👏🏀 It’s great to be back- looking forward to another fantastic year of sport in St. Peter’s! #stpetersabú

Our St. Peter’s Community School Open Night will take place on Tuesday, 27th September 2022, in a change to our published calendar. We are delighted to welcome local 5th and 6th Class students to the school, along with their parents and guardians, to meet our teachers, see our facilities and learn more about the school. On Thursday 1st September, we were delighted to welcome back Mr. Tony McSweeney as the new Principal of St. Peter’s Community School! Mr. McSweeney previously worked in St. Peter’s before leaving in 2019 to pursue roles in School Management, beginning as Deputy Principal in CBS Charleville before later being appointed Principal of North Monastery Secondary School in Cork City. Mr. McSweeney brings with him a wealth of knowledge to St. Peter’s, along with his passion for the progression of the school and the celebration of the achievements of all of our students! Welcome back Mr. McSweeney!

Today, after 15 years in St. Peter’s, we want to wish our Principal Mr. Dunne a happy and healthy retirement. Mr. Dunne has been an exceptional leader in our school throughout his time here as Principal, striving for high academic standards and making positive changes to our school. Part of the great legacy he will be leaving behind here is the €30 million that has been awarded to St. Peter’s for a new state of the art building, which Mr. Dunne had a vital role in obtaining. Thank you Mr. Dunne for your hard work and contribution to St. Peter’s Community School over the past 15 years. We have greatly appreciated your support, your involvement and your dedication to teaching and learning. Best wishes on this new phase of your life from all Staff and Students, both past and present.

Monday 29th August: 2nd and 5th Years
Tuesday 30th August: 6th and 3rd Years
Wednesday 31st August: 1st and 4th Years
Thursday 1st September: All Lessons Begin

Over the course of a few weeks, our Construction Studies teacher Mr. Fitzgerald and a group of student volunteers built a set of Barn Owl Boxes on behalf of Bird Watch Ireland 🦉 Barn Owls are a protected species and these Owl Boxes will be distributed to allow the Owls to remain safely in the wild! 🏠 Thanks also to Pat the caretaker for his work on the project! Happy to help our local community and share our skills! 👷 Well done everyone 👏 #birdwatchireland

Well well well, what a year 2021/22 has turned out to be! 👏 On this, our final day before the summer holidays, it is only right to take a look back at some of the fantastic achievements and activities that our students have taken part in during the year! From Cliff Walking in Ballycotton to School Tours to Ballyhass, West Cork Secret, Dunmore Adventure Centre! From the Munster Champion Teams to the Cork City Cup players, none of the achievements of St. Peter’s this year would have been possible without our fantastic students & staff! 💪 From our Student Council & Amber Flag Committee to our BT Young Scientist prize winners, our Eco Club raising money for the Irish Cancer Society, to the students who represented St. Peter’s in: Athletics, Gaelic Football, Basketball & Soccer, there is so much within our school community to be proud of! ⚫️🔴 Wishing everyone a fantastic Summer Break, this page will still be running during the summer so keep an eye out! Last Friday, St. Peter’s celebrated Culture Day

Last Friday, St. Peter’s celebrated Culture Day to showcase the nationalities of all of the students in our school! 🗺 Students created displays about their countries including information about famous places, people and elements of their culture! 🌎 In total, over 22 nationalities were showcased in our PE Hall, with students attending the exhibition to experience foods, languages, music and sports from each country! St Peter's played Coláiste Iósaef, Kilmallock l

St Peter's played Coláiste Iósaef, Kilmallock last Friday in the First Year Collins' Cup Munster Final ⚽️ A scoreless first half was ensured by Captain Sean O'Regan who, due to injuries and unavailable players, found himself out of position rallying the back four. 💪 St Peter's started the second half well as Jaskiran Singh replaced Oisín O'Sulliavn up front and created several chances with the help of Jamie Nduwuba and Cian Lehane. Coláiste Iósaef won a corner kick deep in the second half and capitalised on a loose header that rattled the crossbar and fell perfectly for a chance on goal. St Peter’s stayed in the game and threatened the Limerick side's defence right up until the final whistle, but Coláiste Iósaef ultimately held out to secure a 1-0 win.

Well done to the Junior Girls’ Soccer team and their coach Ms. Lucey on their win against Coláiste Na Toirbhirte in the Cork Schoolgirls Junior Shield Final 👏🏆 It was a very close game against a strong Bandon team, with the girls leading 3-2 at half time 💪 They didn’t back down in the second half and added another 2 goals to win the game 5-3 in the end! Last Monday, some of our Transition Years went on their final School Tour of the year to Dunmore East Adventure Centre in Co. Waterford! 🌊 Students had a great day of archery, rock climbing, water obstacle coursing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and caving- with the day being described as the best trip of the year! 🛶 Many thanks to the team at @dunmoreadventure for a fantastic day out! ☀️ #schooltour

St Peter’s played Presentation Brothers College

St Peter’s played Presentation Brothers College in the Quarter Final of the U19 Cork Schools Cup yesterday! It was an even first 30 minutes before Pres opened the scoring and then doubled their tally just before half time ⚽️ St. Peter’s dominated the second half but could not break Pres down. Another well taken goal put Pres 3-0 up. Despite St Peter’s dominating possession, Pres continued to create chances and if it wasn't for some excellent saves from Daniel Moynihan, the score line could have been greater than 3-0. Ultimately, a very successful year our U19 Boys, winning the Munster Championship and some good preparation put in place for next year 💪 Honorable mention for Brian Linehan who played an excellent 2nd half! 👏 Looking forward to seeing this team playing next year! 🔴⚫️ #stpetersabú @faischools #schoolsoccer
